Spotlight on Da Vinci Seaglass

Da Vinci Paints Seaglass Artist Watercolor Wash

Da Vinci Paints is excited to share one of our newest watercolors that we aptly named Seaglass. Perfect for painting turquoise seas and warm skies along with a range of colors in between, this luminous blue can be a remarkable addition to any watercolor palette.

To create the unique coloration of Seaglass, we sourced a specific blue pigment that isn’t found in any other Da Vinci paint. This color, known as Pigment Blue 15:4 (PB15:4), is a beautifully rich Phthalo Blue with slight green undertones. We also added a touch of Phthalo Green (PG7) to Seaglass to soften and bring out the green characteristics of PB15:4.

In full saturation, Seaglass is mysteriously dark and reminds one of ocean shadows or the horizon line at the edge of the sea. However, Seaglass will dilute into an extremely transparent turquoise that resembles clear Caribbean waters or sunlit sea glass.

Mixing with Da Vinci Seaglass Watercolor

Seaglass is highly staining with fantastic tinting strength so it’s a ready mixer, able to blend into a spectrum of blues, violets, and greens. Try mixing Seaglass with Permanent Red or Rose Dore to create a rich burgundy, or mix with Perylene Maroon for a super saturated black!

Seaside Blues with Da Vinci Seaglass

Seaglass is a perfect solo color for painting varigated skies and seas, but Seaglass will also blend easily into an astonishing array of additional blues from deeply muted indigos to pastel aquamarines.

Da Vinci Seaglass is available in two convenient sizes, 8mL and 15mL watercolor tubes, at our website.
